Nine Degrees and Falling

One of the cooler panels in the series, worked through the autumn and winter of 2025.

Krohn prepares every panel herself, eight to eleven coats of chalk ground bound in rabbit skin glue, sanded flat between applications. That stage takes about three weeks and determines everything that follows: the ground decides how much pigment the surface will hold and how much of it will come off again under wet paper.

Here the surface was built slightly more absorbent than usual, and the result reads colder and flatter than its neighbours in the exhibition. The banding across the middle of the panel is not deliberate. It is where the sanding grade changed.

The title is a reading taken on the morning the panel was started.
