Stairwell, Van Ostadestraat
The largest panel Enkel has completed under the one-sitting rule, at fifteen and a half hours.
Dutch stairwells are narrow and badly lit and Enkel has painted six of them. This one collapses about two thirds of the way up, where the banister stops being a banister and becomes a diagonal of wet grey-green cutting across the picture. She let it stand.
