Untitled (Utrecht 31)
One of the last large canvases, painted two years before Doorn stopped.
The late work loses almost all hue. Where the 1962 paintings are cool and faintly blue and the 1966 group is warm to the point of looking brown, by 1969 the mixtures have flattened into something close to neutral throughout. Whether this is a development or an exhaustion is the question the 2025 exhibition left open.
Acquired by a museum collection in Amsterdam from the exhibition. Listed here for reference.
