Vat Four, November

Bahri dates her work by vat as well as by year, on the grounds that a vat in its first month and the same vat two years later are not the same material.

Vat four was in decline by November 2025 and giving a paler, greyer blue with an uneven take. She kept working it rather than starting fresh, and the last pieces from it, including this one, are noticeably softer than anything the vat produced in its prime.

Cotton rather than hemp, stitch-resisted rather than clamped, which gives the irregular broken line through the centre.
